Discover more from Bella & The Beast
Substack just made a post suggestion to me. I tend to like tweaking their suggestions, especially right now as I’m still setting things up around here, so here it is: “I just published my first note on Substack Notes, and would love for you to join me there!”
Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. I plan to use it for things like work-in-progress, brief updates, teasers, and quickies.
*eyebrow* Take that as you will.
Although I absolutely will use it here on Bella & the Beast, I am quite certain I’ll use it even more on the other Substack I just finished launching under my dance name, Isidora.
“Why two different Stacks?” you may ask. “Why not just add a section?”
Because Bella & the Beast is sometimes NSFW and 18+ but not all of my people are into that.
Because Bella & the Beast is already sectioned, and Tinkerings will require further sectioning itself. For example, the section Hyperfixator’s Haven will attempt to wrangle and corral those moments when I really GO OFF about my varied obsessions into one spot that y’all can opt in or out of.
One of those obsessions is History & Myth, and will require its own section.
So will the ginormous dance project I’m currently working on. Seriously. This thing is huge and complex.
Remember in my intro how I mentioned that my old blog was like a Jackson Pollock splatter painting that I have been desperately trying to figure out how to segregate, organize, and deliver in a way that anybody outside my own head could possibly digest? This separation between my shiny art & nature stuff versus my dastardly memoirs and fiction is a big part of that.
These two Stacks will be constantly making reference to each other, but they need to be segregated for everybody’s sanity.
“So…what? Once you decide to set up paid subscriptions, you’ll charge for two different things?”
If I ever get to the point of feeling comfortable—AND RELIABLE ENOUGH—to set up paid subscriptions for my stuff, then I dunno. You tell me. If you went to Barnes & Noble and bought an author’s novels, would you begrudge them having a separate way to pay for that family-friendly painting class they also teach through community ed. and the dance show they’re producing at the local theater?
Its kinda like that.
I will, however, utilize Substack’s handy Discounts & Offers for those of you who want it allllllllll, Precious!
So if you’re one of my old readers who has followed me to Substack, and what you’re really looking for is all my Creative Process and Elements stuff, my nature and art photo galleries, the dance history and work-in-progress updates, dance instruction, etc. I will be migrating all of that to Tinkerings.
Notes over there in the Alchemist’s Lab will be where I share a great deal of the Kitchen Dancing Shenanigans and the Muse’s Musical Demands. In other words, the music that I’m currently choreographing to, rehearsing to, listening to while I make food (and dance), or that I’m generally obsessed with.
Notes over here in the Beastie’s Lair will be different. Since I’m building this space as the new home of my fiction, all the world-buildy appendices, inspirations, and research for whichever stories I’m posting will be here.
Same with all the RAWR: martial geekery, updates on the healing battles and silver linings, as well as links, inspirational/motivational quotes, and short musings of the Damsel To Dangerous flavor.
How to join Notes
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to Bella & The Beast, you’ll automatically see my notes. Please do like, reply, or pass them around to anybody you feel might enjoy or get something out of them.
You can also pass notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where we can all share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the content we're devouring here on Substack and beyond.
Why Substack Notes - I’ll let Substack tell you why:
Fellow writers and readers are spending time in Notes for a variety of reasons.
Ted Gioia sees Notes as a forum for dialogue.
The idea behind Notes is simple. Millions of people now participate in Substack as writers and readers—but much of this is built on long articles and essays. We now have a forum for dialoguing and sharing shorter posts.
Chris Ryan is drawn to Substack as an alternative for legacy social media.
One of my main reasons for joining Substack was to wean myself off exploitative social media platforms. I’m hoping this is going to help move us along on that journey!
Sherman Alexie wants to create a kind and creative new space in Notes.
I’m going to focus on being positive, with my own thoughts and photos and by linking to songs, stories, poems from around the web and from other Substacks.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there! In the meanwhile, sing along if you note it—I mean know it. 🤓 (We do this a lot around here…)
