I’ve been in an MRI too, those things are freaky. :)

Indeed. I’ve done it so many times now it’s just a type of meditation I don’t often get to do. 🤪 I absolutely LOVE that song because it’s so close to what I transform it all into in my head now. Heeee! What was yours for?

Yeah that’s a good song for it.

Mine was for two bulging discs in my lower back from work/skating injuries.

Yeeeee…yikes. Have you been able to un-bulge them??

Huh. Does this make us bulge-brothers—? 🤣😝😝 Doh! That sounds awful. Disk devils? Spine siblings… frick.

Nah they are still bulging.

They said they could give me surgery to cut away the bulge, but I decided I didn’t want to get surgery on my spine unless I absolutely have to. So, I do a lot of stretches and back exercises etc etc., to help manage the pain and the muscles spasms. It was a lot worse than it is now, pain wise. So at the moment I’m not opting for surgery but maybe one day.

Haha I know right spine siblings haha

Ohhhh dude. I soooooo hope you can avoid surgery for…um…ever?? For me the things that un-bulged me and have actually started to realign my warped spine were Bowen Therapy (which got me dancing again when it was all stalled out—it stopped all the muscle spasms and holding my body stuck in protective places), and when I switched from rack n crack chiro to neuro-chiropractic. My x-rays are finally showing improvement instead of deterioration. They use an instrument called the Integrator—same kind of theory as Bowen—sending signals to the brain so the body will realign itself, instead of trying to shove shit back in place.

Or…you know…cut it off! 😱😱😱 That’s just horrifying to me. But yet insurance won’t pay for the things that actually repair and restore. Ludicrous. (And typical.) I have no idea if these things are available for you or what you’ve tried, how your body works, etc. But hey, if there’s a chance it can help you like it’s helped me and some of my peeps…

I’ve actually got posts about all those things drafted. I had planned to deal with Stooopid PTSD next but it’s being like a clog in my line. Go figure. Stupid PTSD. 🤪 Since we’re talking about this now, maybe I’ll let them bake more and head fully into spine. Much easier topic to get into.

Thanks Alexx!

Yeah I have no intentions of getting surgery (despite how keenly it seems to be pushed by the doctors).

I’ve done a few different things that have helped, yin yoga and acupuncture early on really helped with the muscle spasms — which are now gone (thank fuck).

And then a lot of walking, swimming, stretching and like callisthenic type exercise helped strengthen the muscles and lower back.

I also got sober and went to a psychologist to talk through some issues I had been avoiding as there was definitely an emotional element to my back pain.

The whole thing was quite the experience. But in the end I’m glad for it as I think it helped me grow as a person. This is actually something I plan to write about in-depth at some point but it’s still all a bit fresh at the moment.

Nowadays, I manage pretty good, I’m skating again with only minimal pain which is awesome - and there is essentially always pain with skating, bulging discs or not so it’s nothing I can’t handle :)

However, your mention of Bowen therapy is very intriguing — I have never even heard of such a thing! But I will be googling it as soon as I finish writing this comment.

Also I’d love to read about your spine story and how you got through it.
